Ten ways to run a sales call.

Before a practice call, Coach Selly asks for your selling style. The style changes how the practice buyer behaves and what Selly coaches you towards. Here is what each one is, what it trains and when it fits.

The ten styles

Direct CloseConversation first, then close on this call. Discovery earns the pitch, and a booked follow-up counts as a loss.Trains: Asking plainly for the money once you have built the value in their numbers.High-Pressure CertaintyCertainty over discovery. Ask early, ask often, and treat an objection as interest rather than a wall.Trains: Staying in the call after a no, and asking again without flinching.Ethical / ConsultativeTrust first, low pressure. Diagnose properly and let them reach the conclusion themselves.Trains: Staying with the problem long enough that the ask becomes obvious.Answer-Led QuestioningEvery question is chosen for the answer it must produce. Use their words, never yours. An instant reply means the question failed.Trains: Knowing the answer you need before you ask, and treating a knee-jerk reply as the question’s fault.Permission & DisqualifySay it is a cold call and hand them the exit. Then disqualify hard, because a meeting you had to beg for is worth nothing.Trains: Opening honestly on a cold call, and refusing to sell to someone who has not earned the pitch.Question-Led DiscoveryPeople buy to escape a problem they have said out loud. Ask until they name it, then ask what happens if nothing changes.Trains: Helping the buyer discover the problem themselves, with a sequence of questions that never sounds like selling.Structured Objection WorkObjections come from a small, known set. Classify first, run the same shape every time, and never improvise a rescue.Trains: Running one repeatable structure on every objection, instead of inventing a save mid-call.Calm AuthorityLoosen the belief behind the objection, let them state the new view themselves, and stay level through every no.Trains: Working the belief under an objection calmly, and telling a working no from a final one.Tonality FirstThe same words land or die on how they are said. Fix the delivery before you rewrite the line.Trains: Hearing your own hedges and pace, and letting conviction carry a plain sentence.High-Energy CloseMomentum closes; a flat call kills the sale. Small yeses stack, the ask comes early, and a re-ask must earn its turn.Trains: Keeping a call alive until the ask, and finding out what “think it over” is hiding.

Side by side

Each style is tuned on the same seven dials. Higher means more of it: a 5 in pressure pushes hard, a 5 in comfort with silence lets pauses run.

What every style shares

The styles disagree about pace, pressure and when to ask. Selly holds all of them to the same few rules:

See the styles at work

The objection library takes the things buyers say most, from “it’s too expensive” to “send me some information”, and shows how these styles answer each one.

Where the styles come from

Direct Close, High-Pressure Certainty and Ethical / Consultative are our own. Question-Led Discovery is inspired by the approach Jeremy Miner teaches; Structured Objection Work is inspired by the approach Matt Ryder teaches; Calm Authority is inspired by the approach JP Egan teaches; Tonality First is inspired by the approach Eli Wilde teaches; High-Energy Close is inspired by the approach Bill Walsh teaches. The descriptions and coaching are written by MockAllies in our own words. MockAllies is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of the trainers named here.

Pick a style and practise it out loud

Choose it under “Your selling style” in Coach, run the call, read the feedback and try again.
